Growth in global demand for "Green" goods & services

A report written by the Canadian Dept. of Natural Resources states that there is a currently a 30% growth each year in the demand for environmentally labelled goods and services. In Canada alone, there is over 15 billion dollars a year spent on ecologically friendly items. This can range from renewable energy, recycled goods, environmentally friendly processed materials, and the services required by these types of businesses. Europe, Canada, Japan, and the US are leading the way towards consumer interest in more sustainable items with many other countries following the trend. Canadian Business Magazine, MacLean's reports that the fastest growing industry in the next decade will be the business of "energy efficiency". A legitimate labelling program, such as Green Leader, allows consumers to recognise that your company does indeed have a commitment to reducing its impact on the planet and these labels are widely sought after both at a retail level and business to business.

Competitive Advantage

At the moment only a small fraction of all products sold have environmental labelling on them. These tend to include food items, appliances, washing detergents and toiletries, and a few cars, (namely the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid). The labelling usually rates the level of energy efficiency each product offers. There is a huge gap in the market place for additional labelling so that consumers realise that the company behind these products is also taking positive environmental steps at their factories and offices. The Green Leader labelling program provides a unique opportunity to provide your company with a true marketing program that gives you a unique advantage over your competitors. The availability of different accreditation levels within the labelling program enables you to better your commitment to the environment year after year and stay ahead of your competition in promoting your environmental credentials. It also offers a great calling card for seeking new business. There is no better catch phrase these days than to proclaim that your company is committed to the environment. The Green Leader program is door opener in a landscape where competitive advantages are key for creating new business or expanding existing trade with existing clients.

Improving Corporate Culture

Giving your company Green credentials are exciting and adds a fresh energy to employee morale. A company that "cares" about the environment sends the right signal to its workforce. The Green Leader program has elements that involve the workforce in helping reduce energy and water consumption. It motivates and rewards staff to think carefully about how resources are a daily basis. It has a flow on effect whereby staff are trained in energy conservation and can then apply this in their own homes for immediate rewards of cost saving themselves. As the name suggests, Green Leader motivates all levels of staff to "lead" and take ownership of their individual contribution towards environmental impact. When people are armed with the necessary information and can make and see improvements, the results lead to increased positivity and greater enjoyment of their workplace environment.

Improved stakeholder Relations

With more and more young investors purchasing shares these days, there is a growing interest in companies who demonstrate a commitment to the environment. So much so that "Ethical Investor" groups are opening up worldwide. These savvy brokers are steering investors towards companies who specifically address issues of climate change. There are even banks such as Canada's Vancity, who make it their business to support large scale environmental causes and retain huge profits because of the great publicity afforded to them. In turn, their stocks remain strong, fuelled by continuous positive press their environmental efforts create. With a so much media attention given to a changing climate and the devastating effect it could have on businesses, many investors take comfort in companies who are considerate of the environment to the extent that they would not be adversely affected through the introduction of Carbon Tax schemes, or the restriction of trade due to harmful substances that may have an effect on them!
