Reducing Your Costs
Reducing Your Energy, Water and Waste Costs
Leading scientists around the world agree that the growth in the amount of resources we use cannot continue without causing disastrous irreversible effects to our planet.
They agree that the best way to combat climate change is to reduce the amount of resources used in our daily lives and reuse as much as possible. The
Green Leader program utilises this advice as the core of its foundation and business model.
Our team of independent auditors are appointed to discover how each member company is using energy, water, and waste and specifically define how savings can be made.
Some of the questioning that takes place aims to address the following points:
Use of energy
-
How much energy is being used?
-
What type of energy is being used (Electricity or Natural Gas?)
-
If the electricity is from coal fired plants, is another energy option available?
-
How modern is any plant or equipment? What is its efficiency rating? Can it be re-placed or upgraded?
-
What and how is lighting used?
-
Are employees turning off equipment when not in use? Are energy conservation behaviours in place? Who is in charge of this?
-
How are company's premises heated/air conditioned/ insulated?
-
Are optimums being achieved?
-
Is energy being created on site? Can this be implemented?
-
Where can energy savings be made?

Use of Water
-
How much water is used?
-
What is the water used for?
-
Are there any water saving mechanisms in place
-
Is rainwater collected and used?
-
Is grey water collected and used?
-
Where can water savings be made?
Waste output
-
What type of waste does the company create?
-
How is this dealt with? Landfill, incineration, etc?
-
How can the company's waste be re-used, reduced, or recycled?
-
Can the company generate energy from its waste?
-
What needs to be done to reduce the amount of waste created?
The audits will identify the complete energy, water, and waste components of each business and identify specific problem areas and provide solutions to these. There will be a concise plan as to how companies can reduce their energy, water, and waste use and meet the specific targets for reduction as set out in the
Green Leader labelling requirement.
The overall aim is to provide companies with the tools to enact change so that knowledge can amount to reduction and greater efficiency in the way resources are used.
